Underlying Philosophy

Volunteer Boston - Rosie's Place The underlying philosophy of Rosie's Place is to provide a safe and nurturing environment to help poor and homeless women maintain their dignity, seek opportunity and find security in their lives.

About

Volunteer Boston - Rosie's Place Rosie's Place was founded in 1974, when Kip Tiernan, a Boston activist, noticed that women were disguising themselves as men in order to get shelter. Kip quickly learned that not only was there no shelter for women in Boston, there was no shelter for women anywhere in the U.S. With a handful of committed volunteers, Kip started Rosie's Place in an abandoned grocery store in the heart of Boston's South End.

Volunteering

Volunteer Boston - Rosie's Place Rosie's Place relies completely upon the kindness of our volunteers and donors. Without the support of literally thousands of individuals, groups, corporations and foundations, Rosie's Place would not exist. We welcome your help through volunteer service in one of our many direct service or administrative programs. Call our Volunteer Services Office at (617) 442-9322 to learn when the next volunteer orientation will take place.
